Welcome!  to Think  Spring!

"Oil Can Row"
Oil paintings have been around for many, many centuries.  Some artists use a medium like linseed oil, flax seed oil, mineral spirits or turpentine mixed with the oils to thin them making the paint more workable when applying to the canvas.
Artists do not always use canvas as a substrate; sometimes they use linoleum tile, wooden panels, paper/cardboard and slate.  They do not always use a brush either.  Some have had great success using palette knives, their fingers, or a common rag.

Oil paint dries by oxidation, not evaporation; therefore, it should not be varnished before a six month period... usually one year is necessary to allow for a complete drying cycle.  Art conservators do not consider an oil painting completely dry until it is 60 to 80 years old.

Do not leave oil paintings in direct sunlight or damp surroundings for extended periods of time.  A light dusting is all that is necessary; do not use spray cleaners or polishes on the surfaces.

So many of my friends and colleagues offered a name for this painting.  [Thank you!]  The name is a culmination of suggestions.  Gail Hartley implied:  "It looks like eating a lunch at a bistro in Paris ."   I liked this name, too.

Lake George is located in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York.  It is a famous tourist attraction during all seasons of the year.  Many events and activities have made this village "home"  such as the Winter Carnival where the Polar Bear Club makes a splash in the frozen waters.  In the summer, many charities and organizations seek out this town to hold their "happenings" such as the yearly Harleyfest, Firemen's gathering, and the Adirondack Nationals - a event in which over 5,000 custom hot rods, antique and one-of-a-kind autos show up to "strut" their stuff.

This area is also famous for fishing, boating, parasailing, hiking, camping and just plain vacationing.  People come from all over the world to visit this quaint town and return again and again.

Shown at Albany, New York 1st Friday Event and the Schodack Town Hall Exhibit.

"AlTech Steel"
"Altech Steel, Menands, NY", oil on canvas,

Al Tech Steel, Menands, New York, USA
[Also known as Alleghany-Ludlum Steel]

Al Tech Steel was a very large employer in the upstate New York region for many decades.  Like the other American steel companies of the 20th century, its decline and despair was due only to the outsourcing of steel through other countries.
There was a variety of buildings throughout the Al Tech Steel compound.  Railroad tracks that lead up to some of the buildings still can be seen from a distance.
